Dniester River now has a Sister!

The group of Bendery City Museum http://www.berg.bendery.md/museum/?lang=en , the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Entomologic Museum and Eco-TIRAS participated in the study tour to USA in frames of the partnership project supported by the American Association of Museums. The group visited the Science Museum of Minnesota http://www.smm.org/hours , Wahpeton City Museum, Wahpeton Chahinkapa Zoo www.chahinkapazoo.com , The Rodger Ehnstrom Nature Center as well as headwaters of the Mississippi River and the Red River of the North as well as different water-related protected areas. The group members raised their awareness in the restoration of channeled rivers issue – the method, well developed now in agrarian North Dakota. The group leading by Riverkeepers.org of the transboundary Red River of the North and by the Rodger Ehnstrom Nature Center participated in a set of events dedicated to the rivers: Big River Journey http://www.nps.gov/miss/forteachers/brjindex.htm along Mississippi near Saint Paul, Minnesota, Wahpeton Water Festival, River Watch Water Quality Monitoring http://www.internationalwaterinstitute.org/riverwatchmain.htm , Arbor Day Tree Planting in Wahpeton. During Water Mixing Ceremony happen in Fargo participants from the Dniester River USA mixed their water samples from both river basins demonstrating the unity of water resources and signed a Proclamation which declared a Sister relationships of the Dniester River and the Red River of the North [download]

Participants from the Dniester River basin kindly thank our US counterparts (The Rodger Ehnstrom Nature Center, The Red River Riverkkeepers www.Riverkeepers.org ) and the American Association of Museums for very interesting, useful and pleasant visit. We also thank the US Embassy in Moldova for readiness to issue visas in a non-bureaucratic way and other support
provided. We are waiting our American counterpart group which will visit the Dniester River in the first half of July, 2010 to participate in the Dniester Youth Summer School in Saharna and the Dniester Day River Festival in Cioburciu. US partners advanced press-release [download]
